The Planas family, a whole life working with wood
The history of Serradora Planas begins to be written in the middle of 1945, in the town of Vidrà. It was then that Ramon Planas Sadurní, taking advantage of the fact that his son was in the mili, asked for a loan from the bank of 40,000 ‘pesetas’ to set up a small workshop under Can Planas' old house. Once back from the military, and with the workshop just set up, Josep Planas Verdaguer sets to work bravely with his father to take forward the family business they had dreamed of so much.
It was a hard beginning, of working hard and "starving". They bought the beech wood that came from the forests of Vidrà, and made bowling skittles from it for the textile sector. They veneered them all by hand, following the grain of the wood so they wouldn't break. Its main customers were in Sabadell and Terrassa. They came to have 4 workers on the payroll.

+YEARS EXPERIENCE
1973
In 1973, Ramon Planas Coll, only thirteen years old and being the third generation in the family, started working in the house. It was also a complicated time, as plastic gained prominence and the textile sector began to buy bowling skittle of this material. The company started to recycle and they went to work in the footwear sector making wooden forms. In 1975, the total production already went to this market. It was a time when a lot of work was done by companies in the Alicante area. 25,000 pairs of shapes had been made annually.
1985
A few years later, in 1985, there were two events that were crucial in the future of the company. The first was that Providencia Fontdevila Comas married Ramon and also started working in the family business. The second key point was the change in the production of the forms to the square, as the plastic had reworked its own. This period was started by tourneys in the Vall del Ges and the Valencia area, who made material for the furniture sector.
2002
In 2002, another essential factor occurred that allowed the company to continue growing. Ramon decides to build an industrial building on a land of 2,000 square meters that he owns so that he can remove the saw from under the house. That same year, Josep Planas Fontdevila, the fourth generation, also started working for the company. Once installed in the ship, a season is spent in which the three generations work together with a common goal: to expand the machinery to increase production.
2012
In 2012, he joined Jordi Planas Fontdevila, also from the fourth generation. This fact, adding some new machines, allows the company to exceed the sawn cubic meters every year. Work continues for the Vall del Ges lathes, even if its final product has changed from furniture to perfumery.
2023
In 2023, the company acquired land next to the sawmill and managed to have more than 8,000 square meters of facilities.
